Official candidate statement

I was born and raised in this amazing town. I attended elementary school in the most beautiful school on earth, Oyama Elementary, and graduated from George Elliott Secondary. I grew up working in my family's construction company, where I learned the importance of fiscal management, hard work, responsibility, and respect.

After attending college in Vancouver, I returned to Lake Country almost 20 years ago to start and build a business with my wife of 20 years. That same work ethic carried into building our business together, and working with my wife has taught me the importance of open and honest communication.

In my life I have seen our population boom and our roads crumble. I have seen Main Street transform from an orchard into what it is today — a series of empty lots. I believe Lake Country is more than just a bedroom community for Kelowna; it's unique, with a special energy all its own. Through sustainable development guided by council, fiscal prudence, and honest consultation with the community, I want to help protect the needs and character of our small community as we grow — not just in the short term, but for generations to come.

Asked Biography/Why are you running?

I want to protect what makes these communities special, for the next generation as much as this one. I’m running on responsible spending, creative problem-solving, and sustainable, council-guided development.

Asked Biography/Why are you running?

After college, I came home and started a business with my family. Building it has meant reading and negotiating budgets and contracts, developing procedures that work, and leading teams with respect and autonomy rather than micromanagement.

Growth and housing

All topics

Tyler Kraushar

Asked Lake Country businesses often struggle to recruit and retain employees because of housing costs and availability. What actions would you support to increase attainable workforce housing?

I support attainable housing and growth for Lake Country, but it has to be paired with the infrastructure to actually support it, not approved on faith that we'll catch up later. I want council to slow down and get the sequencing right: infrastructure capacity planned and funded alongside new housing, not playing catch-up after the fact.

Asked Lake Country businesses often struggle to recruit and retain employees because of housing costs and availability. What actions would you support to increase attainable workforce housing?

But locally, I believe the current council has approved growth, without the infrastructure to support it. And residents are frustrated. Our roads, water, and other core infrastructure haven't kept pace with the pace of approvals.

Asked Lake Country businesses often struggle to recruit and retain employees because of housing costs and availability. What actions would you support to increase attainable workforce housing?

We need to respect our roots while planning for future generations, not trade them away for the sake of hitting provincial housing quotas.

Tyler Kraushar

Asked What is the most important topic that needs to be dealt with in Lake Country and how would you go about dealing with it?

Once our spending is in check, we can afford the real work of fixing our infrastructure, not just patching it.

Asked Biography/Why are you running?

I’ve watched our population boom while our roads crumble. The infrastructure built to move and sustain us is being pushed further toward its breaking point.

Taxes and spending

All topics

Tyler Kraushar

Asked How would you control municipal spending and keep commercial property taxes, business-licensing costs and other municipal fees affordable?

Right now, any purchase under $15,000 falls under "Direct Award" meaning no competitive quotes are required, and staff can choose whichever supplier they prefer at whatever price is offered. I want to lower that threshold to a number that actually makes sense in today's economy.

Asked What are the three most important actions the District should take to support the growth and success of local businesses?

Right now, roughly 90% of our budget is carried by residential property owners. Every new business that opens here shares that load and gives us room to ease up on the constant tax increases residents are feeling.

Asked What is the most important topic that needs to be dealt with in Lake Country and how would you go about dealing with it?

Residents have watched property taxes climb every year while infrastructure keeps crumbling. We can’t snap our fingers and fix our roads overnight, but we can start by respecting the hard-earned dollars residents already pay.

Roads and Highway 97

Tyler Kraushar

Asked How would you address traffic congestion, parking limitations and transportation challenges affecting employees, customers and commercial deliveries?

I want to work with the different levels of government and stakeholders involved to finally open the access from Commonwealth to the Jim Bailey industrial park. By routing commercial traffic away from the centre of town, we can reduce regular traffic into Lake Country and shift longer, slower, heavier traffic into the industrial park, where it's mostly headed anyway.

Asked How would you address traffic congestion, parking limitations and transportation challenges affecting employees, customers and commercial deliveries?

I live adjacent to that business park, and I have a real question: how exactly is council planning to move all this new traffic from Reed Rd onto Okanagan Centre Rd East?

Asked How would you ensure businesses receive adequate notice and meaningful consultation before roadwork, construction or other municipal projects disrupt access, parking or customer traffic?

I also want a policy in place to ensure every effort is made to schedule roadwork at convenient times so essentials like school pickup and drop-off are disrupted as little as possible.

Tyler Kraushar

Asked What specific changes would you support to make building permits, development applications, inspections and business approvals faster and more predictable?

I would investigate the steps city staff take to process and approve permits, applications, inspections, and approvals. By identifying unintended bottlenecks in the system, we can work to streamline the process.

Asked What are the three most important actions the District should take to support the growth and success of local businesses?

I want to work directly with Main Street property owners and developers to make that happen, rather than leaving it to chance.

Asked How should the District work with the Lake Country Chamber of Commerce and local businesses when developing policies, budgets and long-term economic plans?

Council and the District need to genuinely partner with the Chamber and local businesses when developing policies, budgets, and long-term plans.

Transparency and how council works

All topics

Tyler Kraushar

Asked How would you ensure businesses receive adequate notice and meaningful consultation before roadwork, construction or other municipal projects disrupt access, parking or customer traffic?

Any project that's deemed to cause disruption to our neighbours and business partners needs to be communicated clearly and well in advance of work starting.

Asked How would you control municipal spending and keep commercial property taxes, business-licensing costs and other municipal fees affordable?

We need City Hall staff who understand that Lake Country taxpayers are not a blank cheque, and council should be the ones championing that standard.

Asked At the end of your four-year term, what measurable results should Lake Country businesses use to determine whether you successfully improved the local business environment?

Businesses should be able to point to whether they actually got meaningful notice and input before disruptive projects started near them, not whether council said the right things about communication.
